Prayer Lake (prayerlake.art) is a small, non-commercial digital
art project operated by Selene Technologies. It has no accounts, no
login, and no way to identify who submitted any given prayer. By
using this site, you agree to the terms below. This is a plain,
general policy written for a small personal project — it is not
legal advice, and it is not a substitute for a lawyer if you have
specific compliance needs.
What this site is
Visitors may leave a short piece of text (a "prayer") in an open field. Every prayer released is gathered, anonymously and in aggregate, into a public visualization on the lake page — a word cloud, thematic groupings, and a map of aggregate submission counts by country and (for the US) state. There is no way, once a prayer is submitted, for the site or its operator to trace it back to the person who wrote it.
Acceptable use
- Don't submit anything illegal, or content whose primary purpose is harassment, spam, or advertising.
- Don't submit anyone else's personal information (yours or a third party's) — remember that whatever you submit may be displayed publicly, indefinitely, and can't later be traced back to you or edited or withdrawn on request, since nothing links a submission to a submitter.
- Automated or bulk submission (bots, scripts) is not permitted. The site applies automated anti-spam and anti-abuse measures — including a basic content filter and a submission rate limit — and may silently reject or discard submissions that trip them, without notice.
No accounts, no moderation queue
There are no user accounts and nothing to sign up for. Submissions are filtered automatically at the point of submission (basic spam and abuse heuristics, a short content blocklist, and length and rate limits); there is no human review queue before a prayer appears. The operator may remove or exclude content after the fact at their own discretion, but has no reliable way to locate a specific past submission except by its visible text.
No warranty, no guaranteed availability
Prayer Lake is provided "as is," with no warranty of any kind. It may be unavailable, changed, or discontinued at any time without notice. Submitted content may be lost, altered, or removed and the operator is not liable for any of that. Don't rely on this site to durably store anything you're not willing to lose.
Intellectual property
You retain whatever rights you had in the text you submit. By submitting a prayer, you grant the site a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display it publicly (verbatim or as part of aggregate visualizations like the word cloud and thematic groupings) for as long as the site operates. Don't submit text you don't have the right to share.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and the operator does not knowingly collect information from children. Because there are no accounts and no age verification, this is not actively enforced technically — parents/guardians should supervise use accordingly.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time; the date at the top of this page reflects the last revision. Since there are no accounts, there's no mechanism to notify individual visitors of changes — check back here periodically.
